Youth and Family Programs Manager

The Youth and Family Programs Manager develops the vision and long and short-term goals for all initiatives, programming, and materials designed for youth ranging from toddlers to teens and families, which may be defined as children and their adult companions. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement, this position strives to position AMFA as the destination for the highest quality arts experiences, utilizing the best practices of art education to engage youth and families in all facets of arts engagement.

Offerings will be a combination of free programming and camps, workshops, and classes through the Windgate Art School (WAS), which require a fee and advance registration. This position will work across the Museum, primarily with staff from (WAS), Community Engagement, and Children’s Theatre and Performing Arts departments.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

  • Advocate for family learning and engagement within the Museum, establishing and sustaining relationships with partners inside and outside the Museum.
  • Create a meaningful and dynamic calendar of programs and events that expand and diversify the Museum’s audiences of young and intergenerational learners.
  • Implement the strategy and pedagogy for high-quality, high-impact programs for youth and family audiences that leverage the Museum’s strengths and the uniqueness of learning at AMFA.
  • With the team, identify key audiences for programs and implement effective engagement strategies to maximize visibility and reach to position AMFA as more accessible to a broader, more diverse audience.
  • With the Marketing and Communications department, develop marketing strategies for promoting youth and family programs and positioning AMFA as a place for families.
  • Co-develop and monitor budgets, oversee and track statistics, and mine data to identify participation trends and inform resource allocation and workflow. Co-prepare funding reports and other regular updates.
  • Oversee logistics regarding implementation of a suite of Family Programs, including overseeing contractual, travel-related, administrative, and financial requirements.
  • Co-identify evaluation and research priorities for programs; design and carry out studies; analyze and report on results, applying these to strategic program decisions.
  • Train and supervise youth teaching instructors and volunteers to ensure high-quality visitor experiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to develop creative, innovative, and engaging educational programs and events that meet the needs of youth and family audiences.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to pilot new programs and assess offerings, growing audiences and positioning AMFA as a leader in the field of art museum education for youth and families.
  • Ability to organize and manage multifaceted programs and projects, meeting timelines with an attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Museum audiences and approaches for engaging them through compelling and relevant experiences.
  • Understanding of art education pedagogy, interpretive principles, and teaching techniques for young learners.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
