Glass Instructor

Designed by the renowned architecture firm, Studio Gang, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts includes landscaped grounds, by the firm SCAPE, and secures AMFA as one of the top cultural institutions in the region. The new Museum includes expanded galleries, new Art School, restaurant, Museum Store, theater, lecture hall, and other programming and event spaces.

The faculty instructor will bring expertise in various glass techniques, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to fostering creativity and artistic expression in our students.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and deliver engaging and dynamic art courses, workshops, and demonstrations for students at various skill levels.
• Instruct students in fundamental and advanced flamework techniques, kiln-formed glass, cold working, and other relevant disciplines.
• Provide constructive feedback, guidance, and support to students in their artistic development.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and artistic exploration.
• Integrate contemporary concepts, technologies, and methodologies into course content.
• Oversee and maintain the glass studio space, ensuring a safe and organized environment for students and faculty.
• Collaborate with other faculty members and art school staff to promote interdisciplinary opportunities and a holistic learning experience for students.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• College degree or equivalent training and/or experience in a field of study
• Two years of experience as an instructor, preferably at the Art School or equivalent
• Demonstrated expertise in flameworking, kiln-formed glass, and other glass art techniques
• Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Ability to apply simple math concepts such as fractions, ratios, percentages, and proportions as they relate to working with art materials
• Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom
• Ability to work safely, following established norms and protocols

Physical Requirements

• Regularly stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 4 hours at a time)
• Regular use of hands and arms to exhibit and instruct techniques of craft
• Occasionally sit prolonged periods of time (up to 4 hours at a time)
• Occasionally bend, lean, push, pull, stoop, and crawl
• Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
• Regularly required to use speech to instruct and interact with students
• Regular use of visual acuity for exhibiting and instructing techniques of craft
