Facilities Associate

The Facilities Associate is responsible for supporting AMFA’s day-to-day operations and ensuring the smooth execution of special events and programs.

This role includes a blend of facilities upkeep, event setup and breakdown, as well as providing basic AV support during events. The Facilities Associate will work closely with various museum departments to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and event participants.

Work Schedule:

  • Wednesday / 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Thursday / 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday / 1:00 – 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday / 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday / 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining and repairing the building's physical structures including, but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, spot cleaning windows, and other general cleaning duties
  • Perform routine janitorial tasks, including cleaning public and staff areas, maintaining restrooms, and ensuring supplies are stocked, coordinating with contract janitorial services as needed.
  • Assist in light maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, replacing light bulbs, touch-up painting, etc.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining all roof drains, which may also include removal of debris.
  • Support the Director of Facilities in identifying and resolving building maintenance issues.
  • Proactively support Museum programs by ensuring necessary equipment, seating, and technology is in place.
  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of common and storage areas and facilities.
  • Assist with grounds upkeep and maintenance including trash pick-up, etc.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of museum events, including arranging tables, chairs, and other equipment as specified by event plans.
  • Coordinate with event planners and facilities team to ensure that event spaces are prepared and restored to their original condition post-event.
  • Handle the setup and operation of audio-visual (AV) equipment such as projectors, microphones, and speakers for events and presentations.
  • Provide on-site support during events to troubleshoot and manage AV needs or logistical challenges.
  • Serve as facilities point of contact with vendors, as needed.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more related experience or a combination of both education and experience.
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance, event setup, or related roles, preferably in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment setup and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required for events.
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished orally or in written, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment to handle conflict and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy, remaining calm and collected.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Physical Demands

  • Regularly stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time (up to 5 hours at a time)
  • Regularly required to climb stairs.
  • Regularly required to climb ladders, operate lifts, and work at heights.
  • Regularly bend, lean, push, pull, stoop, and crawl.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. alone.

Communication Demands

  • Regularly required to use speech to interact with team and the public.

Vision Demands

  • Regular use of visual acuity to review written materials and perform detailed maintenance functions.

Work Environment/Exposure

  • Work is performed both inside and outside Museum grounds.
  • Regularly, but temporarily, exposed to outside weather conditions; occasionally includes rain, snow, ice, sleet, and extreme hot or cold temperatures.
  • Occasionally exposed to noise levels up to eighty-five decibels.
